Aston Martin blames ‘difficult to drive’ AMR24 for Fernando Alonso’s struggle at Imola
Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

Fernando Alonso had a difficult weekend at Imola, where he finished P19 in the race and got eliminated in Q1 in qualifying. Aston Martin has been struggling to find the pace this season and is far from their best compared to the 2023 camoaign.

Aston Martin brought in a lot of upgrades last week to the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, including a revised front wing and nose, floor, diffuser, engine cover, rear corner, and modified rear suspension. But their upgrades did not seem to offer them the advantage they wished for and rather added to their miseries in Imola.

But we have also seen that it is difficult to drive. We had a couple of offs over the weekend. The one from yesterday was actually impacting us the most because we were really on the back foot from that point onwards. Mike Krack said in Imola post race interview

Aston Martin has yet to score a single podium this season and stands fifth in the Constructors Championship. Team Principal Mike Krack says that Aston Martin can still compete for the podiums provided they work on their misfiring development of upgrades.

Fernando Alonso’s advisor says Aston Martin is going ‘backwards’

Flavio Briatore, the key advisor to Fernando Alonso, has come to the observation that Aston Martin is not going forward with their AMR24 development strategies. The former Renault team principal has been a long-time key advisor to Alonso and has shown concerns over the Silverstone-based team.

It seems that the machine is not working well here. Instead of moving forward it seems like they are going backwards Flavio Briatore spoke to DAZN

The Aston Martin outfit was a force to be reckoned with last season as they scored 280 points while managing to challenge the likes of Ferrari and Mercedes. However, this season’s AMR24 has seen a complete negative turnaround in their performances as they have struggled to score solid points.

As the second round of the European leg in Formula 1 is just around the corner, Aston Martin seeks an improvement in the performance of their car. Their veteran driver, Fernando Alonso still is very capable and can score points and get them a decent number of accolades this season.
