Cavaliers big man reportedly could become one of NBA's 'most coveted trade targets'

The Cleveland Cavaliers roster could look drastically different next season.

There are rumors surrounding Darius Garland's desire to leave the team if it can get a commitment from Donovan Mitchell. Head coach J.B. Bickerstaff is rumored to be on the hot seat. And now, Jarrett Allen is being listed as one of the most desirable trade targets in the league.

"Look for Cleveland's Jarrett Allen to become one of the most coveted trade targets in the league this offseason if the Cavaliers A) succeed in signing Donovan Mitchell to a contract extension and then B) prioritize signing Evan Mobley to a potentially maximum contract extension this summer as increasingly expected," Marc Stein reported via his newsletter. "...Allen continues to have numerous admirers in rival front offices."

Allen has proven himself to be a force on both ends of the floor. This season, the explosive rim-runner averaged 16.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 63.4% from the field. His ability to protect the rim and provide vertical spacing as a roll man are both reasons why he will be an enticing addition for any roster looking to improve its production at the center position.

With two more years remaining on his five-year, $100M deal, any interested party will be getting multiple years of contractual control should they strike a deal to acquire Allen via trade. At 26-years-old, Allen could still improve. NBA players often enter their prime years at the age of 28, so there's still room for the Texas product to continue expanding his overall game.

After their second-round elimination by the Boston Celtics, the Cavaliers have some hard questions to answer surrounding their roster. Mitchell's decision regarding his future will undoubtedly impact how the front office moves forward in the coming months.

Nevertheless, it's clear Cleveland needs to balance out its current core, and that could mean Allen is moved to allow Evan Mobley room to continue developing.

There should be no shortage of interested parties. Allen has proven himself to be one of the best rim-running centers in the NBA. His market will be plentiful. As such, the Cavaliers could have a bidding war on their hands.
