Minnesota Timberwolves News: 29-Year Veteran NBA Ref Sounds Off on Rudy Gobert’s Deplorable Money Gesture
Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

Veteran NBA referee Scott Foster is not a fan of Rudy Gobert’s antics toward the officials, as the Minnesota Timberwolves center has indirectly accused them of influencing the outcome of games with the money gesture

Speaking with The Athletic recently, the 29-year referee, who also has a contentious relationship with Chris Paul, shared his POV on the disrespect he has been getting from the players, especially with the rapid rise of sports betting.

“I wouldn’t say it offends me, but it definitely affects me, where I go, ‘Wow, man. Like really?’ I mean, come on. That’s not what we are about. You’ve got to be kidding me you think that. I just think that has become a symbol of disrespect, or a way you disrespect an official,” said Foster.

Overall, the relationship between the referees, players, and coaches has hit an all-time low lately since the former has been quicker in handing out unnecessary technicals, leading to fines and suspensions.

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert lost $175,000 in fines with the money gesture

Rudy Gobert is $175,000 poorer after he made the money gesture toward the referees on two separate occasions.

The four-time Defensive Player of the Year award winner was given a $100,000 fine for doing it the first time in an overtime loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers in March, as the Minnesota Timberwolves center was given his marching orders after fouling out.

A few weeks later, Rudy Gobert was fined $75,000 for doing it again in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Game 4 loss against the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference semifinals, where they also lost.
