Eagles rookies show off strength in push-up competition
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles are having some fun at the start of OTAs.

Two rookies, defensive tackle Gabe Hall and offensive guard Trevor Keegan, showed off their strength in a friendly push-up competition.

Hall, the UDFA, ended up beating the Eagles' fifth-round pick.

Hall Projected to Make Eagles' 53-Man Roster

The Eagles have seven undrafted free agents signed for the offseason and Hall is one of them that is projected to make the official 53-man roster, according to Bleacher Report's Ryan Fowler

Fowler points to Hall's enormous size and versatility for reasons why.

"While Roseman spent a third-round pick on Houston Christian's Jalyx Hunt, Baylor's Gabe Hall should have an opportunity to earn a roster spot this fall as well," Fowler wrote. "A massive man at 6'6" and 291 pounds, Hall possesses the alignment versatility that Roseman covets up front, along with the upfield push to keep offensive linemen honest on passing downs."

We know if there's one thing that the Eagles love, it's a very large athlete and that's because you can teach fundamentals, but you can't teach size or speed.

And Hall has both.

In his final two years with the Baylor Bears, Hall recorded 17 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss a pass defenses, and two sacks. His dip in production could have been what kept him from being selected in the 2024 NFL Draft since he had logged 4.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss one year earlier.

Regardless of his previous college stats, there's a real possibility Hall will make it through final roster cuts as long as he pulls off an impressive offseason. And this silly little push-up competition is a great start.

Since legendary defensive tackle Fletcher Cox is off enjoying retirement with Jason Kelce, the Eagles don't have a solidified defensive tackle room outside of Milton Williams and Jalen Carter. They have Jordan Davis, but the third-year defensive tackle has a lot to prove. Veteran Brandon Graham is also back for one last hoorah, though the Eagles can't lean on him because he's not as explosive as he once was.

"It remains to be seen exactly where Hall finds his niche along the defensive line," Fowler wrote, "but his blend of length (34½-inch arms) and explosiveness will be hard to keep off the roster."
